Old Skills, New Skills [Palestinian women's visit to Britain 2012]
Organised by Camden Abu Dis Friendship Association
Funded by Youth in Action
This exchange will bring ten young women from Palestine to spend ten days with ten young women from the UK. The project will give them an opportunity to find out about each other's lives as young women in Palestine and Britain and in country and city. They will prepare and teach each other a variety of skills, contrast the skills women had in the past and that young women need now and consider together how women's lives are changing. They will take pictures, video and write about the experience to make web material to record this experience.
Before the exchange both groups of women will research and prepare skills to teach the other group as part of the programme. The exchange visit in Britain will be divided into three parts. The first part will be spent in the British countryside looking at old craft skills. The second part will be groupwork with women's groups in London looking at the city and at women's lives now. During the third part participants will develop their IT skills to make animated films about women's lives and t to shape a website. They will prepare presentations for a final workshop on women's lives and human rights to which other people will also be invited.
Contact between the women and work on the website will continue after the exchange and there will be a public launch of the website in autumn 2012.
