Community Links

CADFA works hard to promote grassroots links with Abu Dis in order to extend the understanding in Camden of the human rights situation in Abu Dis and to create practical projects which will be helpful. At the moment our community links work in Camden is in four main areas (see below) and in Abu Dis, we have a particularly strong relation to the Dar Assadaqa Community Centre though we also have links to others.

We regularly contact local community centres to work together on benefit concerts and events and to give information about Abu Dis and the work of CADFA. We have been very encouraged by the developing interest shown. One example is that the King’s Cross and Brunswick Neighbourhood Association have formed a twinning link with the Dar Assadaqa in Abu Dis.

Faith groups We also send information and provide speakers to local faith groups – churches, mosques, synagogues and humanists. We have had help from a number of these groups. One example of a link is between the social affairs committee of Rosslyn Hill Chapel, Hampstead and the University Mosque in Abu Dis.

Councillors and political parties As a charity (and anyway as an organisation that wants to work broadly across the community), we have no special link with any political party in Britain or in Palestine. We seek to inform the different political parties about the human rights situation in Palestine and regularly send information to all of our elected representatives in Camden, London and Europe. When we can, we provide speakers, who promote respect for human rights and international humanitarian law. People who speak on behalf of CADFA ask for help with our work but do not promote particular solutions to the Palestinian political situation.

We are pleased to note growing interest in our work from individuals in every party represented on Camden Council. We are pleased recently to have helped inform the Labour Party Holborn and St Pancras GC debate on Palestine and the Green Party Spring conference and we hope to do the same for other parties.

Other local organisations We run exhibitions and talks at libraries, community centres and schools and provide speakers for many local organisations and information stalls at their events. We welcome the support of new groups in Camden. Please contact us for more information, a talk or if you would like to house our Abu Dis photographic exhibitions.
