Past health links projects
Camden Abu Dis health links has supported doctors and patients in Abu Dis in a number of practical ways - providing funds to help the clinics, to buy medicines and equipment. We have raised money for Abu Dis for an eye clinic for people who can't get to the eye hospital in Jerusalem, and provided money for basic medicine for one of the clinics in Abu Dis, who have told us that with rising poverty, some people are not able to afford the usual prices for medicine. We discussed the possibilities of extra hours of opening with the existing small clinics (it did not prove possible) before helping a new clinic to open for evenings and holidays, which doctors there have chosen to call the Camden Clinic.
In early 2009, the main effort of CADFA health links was been to raise money for medical supplies for Gaza, during and following the massive Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip December to January 2009. This money was sent through the Abu Dis Committee to Support Gaza, which bought medicine from Palestinian medical manufacturers in the West Bank and sent it to Gaza with Palestinian Health Relief.
We try to make people in Camden aware of the reasons for the health problems in Abu Dis and recently put a mock Wall outside a London hospital to show how Abu Dis people are cut off from health care
